The excised strip is approximately 1–1.5 x 15–30 cm in size. In closing the resulting wound, the assistants begin to separate from the strip individual follicular unit grafts, which are small, naturally formed groups of hair follicles. Less preferred among hair transplantation methods than before, FUT will leave a thin, linear scar in the donor area, which is typically covered by a patient’s hair, even at relatively short lengths. Recovery time is approximately 2 weeks and requires removal of stitches/staples by medical personnel.

FUE hair transplant

With Follicular Unit Extraction, individual follicular units containing 1 to 4 hairs are taken under local anesthesia; this micro removal process typically uses small punches 0.6 mm and 1.0 mm in diameter. The surgeon then uses very small microblades or fine needles to puncture the areas to retrieve the grafts, place them at a predetermined density and pattern, and consistently angled the scars to provide a realistic hairstyle. Technicians usually do the final part of the procedure by placing individual grafts in place. FUE takes place in a single long session or multiple small sessions. The FUE procedure takes more time than surgery from the first method. The duration of a FUE surgery varies according to the surgeon’s experience, hair removal rate, and patient characteristics. FUE can give very natural results. Some surgeons state that FUE can result in a lower rate of successfully transplanted follicles compared to strip harvesting.
